Max Junior starts new chapter with ‘Somedays’

Namibian hip-hop and R&B recording artist Max Maolusi, popularly known as Max Junior, is back with a new single titled 'Somedays', marking the beginning of what he describes as a new chapter in his music career.

While Max Junior has not released music for some time, he says he would not describe the period as a break. “It’s not that I took a break; I'd rather say I adjusted,” he said.

During this period, the artist focused on his business, Brand-A-WYN Ice, which he describes as an all-ice needs-supplying company.

His return to releasing music came naturally, with 'Somedays' being one of the first songs from his upcoming body of work to be completed and mastered.

"Honestly, I just express what’s in me. And this was one of the first songs that I finished mastering. From the body of work I have lined up, I felt I was gone too long and the urge of dropping was urging,” he said.

The title 'Somedays' reflects the different emotions and unwanted experiences people can go through. Max Junior says the song speaks to moments when life can feel particularly difficult, while reminding listeners that those moments do not last forever.

“Somedays you wish you weren’t born; somedays you feel down. But remember it’s only some days. And not all days, so it basically comes from all unwanted experiences you go through,” he said.

Music never stops

Although he was not releasing music, Max Junior says music itself never left his life. Instead, he chose to focus more on his business, explaining that his decision was also influenced by the challenges artists face in Namibia.

"I mainly focused on my business because music doesn’t support us in Namibia; when I drop it, it is purely out of passion,” he said.

Despite the time between releases, Max Junior says he never questioned whether he would return to music.

With 'Somedays' now out, Max Junior has confirmed that the single is only the beginning of his next musical chapter. “Definitely a new chapter. A body of work is coming,” he said.
