Karlie and Kachazi chase dreams with ‘To The Top’

Euthermiah Namasiku Kalimbula, professionally known as Karlie, and Kalenga Ruminika, who performs as Kachazi, have teamed up for their latest song, 'To The Top'.

The single brings together their different sounds while delivering a message about pursuing dreams despite setbacks and doubt.

The Zambezi and Kavango artists combine their sounds on a track about ambition, resilience and chasing dreams.

Karlie, a singer and songwriter whose music blends Afrobeats, Afropop, Afro Soul and R&B, told tjil: “'To The Top' was inspired by the journey of chasing your dreams despite negativity, setbacks and people who doubt you. It’s about speaking life over yourself, staying focused and believing that you’re capable of reaching greater heights."

Tjil asked Karlie what made her collaborate with Kachazi.

"Kachazi was the perfect choice because his energy and sound matched the message of the song. I wanted someone who could bring confidence, motivation and authenticity to the record, and he did exactly that."

She added that their shared passion for making good music was another key factor.

Kachazi said the single happened by instinct, not planning.

"I just walked into the studio and found her recording this nice song, and there was an empty space. From there, a collaboration just happened," he told tjil.

Kachazi said he found Karlie flexible and easy to work with, calling the experience "very cool."

"This song is not only for Karlie and me," he said. "It's for everyone who is really trying hard in life and counting their blessings. Nothing happens in the blink of an eye — everything happens in its own time."

Karlie said she wants listeners to feel motivated, confident and hopeful when they hear the song. “Whether someone is chasing a career, education, business or personal goals, I want this song to remind them to keep going and never let negative energy define their journey."

For Karlie, 'To The Top' also represents a new stage in her career.

"After my recent breakthrough, this release is about proving that I’m here to stay and that I’m committed to growing as an artist," she said.

She added that fans can expect more music, visuals, collaborations and bigger performances.

“I’m working on building a lasting career, and this is only the beginning of what I have planned," she said.
