The University of Namibia Ogongo Campus hosted its annual Rice Harvesting Festival in the Omusati region yesterday.

This year’s theme was 'Transforming smallholders' produce into marketable value-added products for enhanced livelihoods in Namibia'.

Unam vice-chancellor Professor Kenneth Matengu said the campus expects to harvest 23 tonnes of rice this year, up from 21 tonnes in 2025, from the same 7.5-hectare field.

The festival highlights the role of Unam Ogongo in promoting food security, skills development, and rural livelihoods throughout northern Namibia.
