Report corrupt officials - Schlettwein
Solid evidence is lacking
The agriculture ministry receives many complaints of alleged corruption and fraud related to resettlement farms, but these must be made in writing and with the necessary proof.
Members of the public who have solid evidence of officials engaging in corruption regarding land procurement matters should report it.
This according to agriculture minister Calle Schlettwein, who said his ministry consistently receives complaints suggesting corruption, fraud and other inappropriate conduct by officials, possible beneficiaries and other parties relating to either land acquisition and allotment or procurement related matters.
“In this regard, it is relevant to refer to the efforts to assure accountable and transparent administration by the Second Land Conference of Namibia of 2018,” he said.
During this conference, it was resolved that the ministry should conduct an audit of the land acquisition and allotment activities, he added.
Members of the public who have solid proof or evidence of officials, possible beneficiaries and other parties conniving with one another to commit or engage in corruption, fraud or other irregular conduct with the aim to corruptly or inappropriately benefit the officials or parties should be reported, Schlettwein said.
“Any such information must be in writing, contain the contact details of and be signed by the depositor and be handed in in a sealed envelope at the fourth floor of the ministry. Upon receipt of any such written communique, the depositor will be furnished with a written acknowledgement.”
