Otjozondjupa buys four farms for N$35m

The Otjozondjupa Regional Council spent N$35.3 million in the 2025/26 financial year to acquire four farms covering about 11 000 hectares for land reform, according to its latest annual report.

The farms were subsequently divided into nine farming units as part of efforts to expand access to agricultural land in a region where farming remains a major economic activity.

The regional council said land reform remained among its priorities, but noted concerns about the regional distribution of beneficiaries.

Seven farms comprising 14 units were advertised during the reporting period, with 12 subsequently allocated to beneficiaries.

However, only one of the beneficiaries was from Otjozondjupa, raising concerns about equitable access to land in the region.

The report does not state whether the 12 allocated units were among the nine units created from the four farms acquired during the 2025/26 financial year.

The N$35.3 million expenditure amounts to an average of about N$3 209 per hectare based on the total area acquired.

Details on the names and locations of the four farms acquired, as well as the intended beneficiaries of the nine units created through their subdivision, are not provided in the report.
