Ndonga Linena targets 100% production
NEWS IN SHORT
Ndonga Linena Green Scheme farm manager Janno Rentel told Namibian Sun this week that the farm’s production has surged from 40% to 95% over the past two years. Rentel credited this to government intervention after years of underfunding and vandalism during the AgribusDev era, which left key infrastructure damaged and phase two of the farm idle.
“With the support of the ministry, we repaired pivots, upgraded the pump station and planted both phases,” Rentel explained. The farm now aims to harvest 3 200 tonnes of maize this season and targets 7 000 tonnes next season from a total of 674 hectares under full production.
Rentel added that while 25 security officers are employed by government through the National Youth Service, the farm itself has a team of permanent workers. However, high electricity, fuel and fertiliser costs, driven by global instability, remain a serious challenge.
