Inge takes over from Hengari
NEWS IN SHORT
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed Inge Zaamwani as the new agriculture minister, replacing Mac Hengari, who is in custody.
The 66-year-old, Zaamwani, was a presidential advisor under the late President Hage Geingob's administration. She succeeds Hengari, who was dismissed following allegations that he attempted to bribe a woman accusing him of rape and fathering her child.
Hengari, who denies the accusations, is currently detained at the Windhoek Correctional Facility, awaiting a formal bail hearing and DNA test results.
“With her wealth of administrative, industry and leadership experience, President Nandi-Ndaitwah believes that Honourable Zaamwani will unlock opportunities for value-addition, job creation and food security in the sectors under her portfolio,” says a statement by the presidency.
