First NamLITS Café opens

The NamLITS online system has recently been improved to allow more features for producers.

It can now be used as a one-stop livestock marketing tool that allows producers to process most administrative requirements for livestock identification themselves.

The Namibian Agriculture Union (NAU) explained that NamLITS is a livestock identification and traceability system that falls under the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS).

It is an integral part of the FANMeat system that enables Namibia to export beef.

The union said NamLITS Online was created as a tool for producers to perform certain functions themselves, with regard to livestock identification, movement of livestock, as well as traceability. The NamLITS online system is managed by the Meat Board of Namibia on behalf of DVS.

“However, not all producers have access to internet facilities and the Meat Board therefore came up with the concept of NamLITS cafés. “Service providers working with agricultural communities can act as agents of the Meat Board to assist producers,” the NAU said.

According to the union, Gumtree Tag Solutions has received training and has the necessary facilities - including a reliable internet connection, printers and laptops.

Support services offered include ear tag orders, cancellation of livestock registration, permit applications and movement of livestock, livestock registrations, updating consumer information on the NamLITS System, printing of NamLITS personal reports and completion of animal health declarations.

“Producers are encouraged to use the NamLITS online system, whether they do it themselves or use NamLITS cafés. This reduces the administrative burden at state veterinary offices and speeds up the process, as everything is done online,” the NAU said.
