More than 70 kids under the age of 12 will take part, as well as top athletes returning to test themselves against a strong field.
The FNB Sandman Triathlon, one of Namibia’s most iconic sporting traditions, returns to Swakopmund this Sunday at The Mole, where athletes will once again take on one of the country’s most-loved multisport challenges.
The event continues to grow each year, drawing both seasoned triathletes and enthusiastic newcomers.
FNB’s continued support as title sponsor, since 2010, plays a key role in ensuring the long-term success and prestige of the event, helping the Sandman maintain its reputation as a highlight on the country’s sporting calendar during the festive season.
OTB Sport, the event organisers, noted that the FNB Sandman remains an event that welcomes everyone — from elite competitors to families, friends, and team groups eager to participate together.
This year's event will see more than 70 kids under the age of 12 years taking part. The setting at The Mole creates a festive, coastal atmosphere that adds to the social and holiday energy the event is known for.
Athletes can choose between four distances:
Ultra: 1.9 km swim / 90 km cycle / 21 km run (start 7:00)
Standard: 1 km / 40 km / 10 km (start 8:00)
Sprint: 400 m / 20 km / 3 km (start 10:45)
Super Sprint Team: 150 m / 6 km / 3 km (start 12:30 for teams / 12:40 for individuals)
This year’s event is expected to be highly competitive, with several top athletes returning to test themselves against a strong field. The Sprint distance, in particular, is anticipated to deliver a fast and exciting race as rising young talents and experienced athletes push for top positions.
OTB Sport extends thanks to its supporters and partners, including FNB as the event title sponsor for 16 years, WAVES for sponsoring a running cap for all participants, African Marketing for finishers drinks and the water table, Sleepsport for the Strand Street water table, EMA for medical response and local and regional authorities — all of whom help make the Sandman Triathlon a smoothly-run event year after year.
The transition/finish area is in the parking lot at the Mole main beach. Consequently Strand Road will be closed from Saturday at 13:00 until Sunday, 14 December, at 15:00.
The 2025 Sandman Triathlon promises a memorable day of endurance, excitement, and coastal energy as athletes of all ages and abilities take on one of Namibia’s most cherished sporting events.
