Angola unveils third FIFA and UEFA-compliant stadium in five Months

Angola has strengthened its sporting infrastructure with the inauguration of the 10,000-seat Huambo Stadium Daniel Cassoma Lutucuta, the country’s third FIFA- and UEFA-compliant facility delivered in the past five months.The new multi-purpose complex, built by Mitrelli, meets international standards set by FIFA, UEFA and World Athletics. It follows the completion of similar arenas in Uíge and Bengo, marking a significant push by Angola to position itself as a competitive host for major continental tournaments.The inauguration ceremony was led by Angola’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão Pinto de Andrade, and attended by the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, and the Governor of Huambo Province, Pereira Alfredo, alongside senior government officials and representatives from Mitrelli.Speaking at the event, Minister Falcão Pinto de Andrade described the stadium as more than just infrastructure.“This is not just a stadium. It is an affirmation of Angola’s capacity. It is proof that our country has technical competence, strategic vision and ambition to build world-class infrastructure,” he said.The stadium is named in honour of Daniel Cassoma Lutucuta, one of Angola’s most respected football figures, recognised for his leadership and service to the nation. The Minister said the naming preserves “a legacy of dignity, commitment and responsibility”, values the facility aims to instil in future generations.Mitrelli Chief Executive Officer Rodrigo Manso emphasised the broader social impact of such developments.“Behind every inclusive sports facility are thousands of future stories, athletes, families, entrepreneurs and entire communities. When infrastructure is executed with purpose, it becomes a multiplier of human potential. Delivering three internationally compliant arenas in five months reflects a clear national priority, investing in youth and advancing Angola’s presence on the global stage,” Manso said.The Huambo complex features a full international-size football pitch, an athletics track, dedicated facilities for athletes and referees, anti-doping infrastructure, and broadcast-ready media zones aligned with UEFA Category IV standards.The rapid rollout of internationally certified venues reflects Angola’s wider strategy to comply with evolving Confederation of African Football infrastructure requirements for competitions such as the Africa Cup of Nations, while strengthening the country’s role in Africa’s growing sports economy.With three world-class arenas now operational within five months, Angola is signalling its ambition to elevate its status as a destination for continental and international sporting events.
