Steady flow of cruise ships dock at Lüderitz

The Azamara Journey was the latest passenger vessel to dock at the Port of Lüderitz on 18 December.Having previously visited the port on 6 December, the ship arrived from Walvis Bay as part of an 18-day, one-way cruise from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to Cape Town. The itinerary, which began on 2 December, was scheduled to conclude on 20 December.The 181-metre vessel has 11 decks and 355 cabins, accommodating up to 781 passengers.The cruise ship Le Bougainville, which shares its name with the CMA CGM Bougainville – one of the world’s largest container ships, launched in 2015 with a capacity of 17 722 TEU and operated by CMA CGM Line – was expected at the port on 19 December and will be the last passenger vessel to call in 2025.Constructed in 2019 at a cost of US$150 million, Le Bougainville is 131 metres long, with seven decks and 29 cabins, and can accommodate up to 264 passengers. It is the third of six Ponant-owned polar expedition vessels.These luxury yachts feature modern facilities, five-star hotel service, highly trained staff and exotic itineraries to destinations worldwide. The world’s first underwater cruise lounge, Blue Eye, was designed exclusively for Ponant’s Explorer-class yachts and includes vibrating sofas and an advanced sound system that captures the acoustics of the sea.Compagnie du Ponant (CDP), which owns Le Bougainville, is a French cruise company founded by former French merchant navy officers. The company specialises in premium adventure cruising, targeting mainly French-speaking markets with all-inclusive packages. Most of CDP’s fleet is based in Antarctica between December and March.Expected arrivals AidaStella, which visited on 9 and 24 of November, will be the first passenger vessel to dock at the port of Lüderitz in 2026. AidaStella is scheduled to call on 29 January 2026. The provisional Namport port log indicates that the Port of Lüderitz will welcome four passenger vessels in February. Nautica is scheduled to call on the 4th, Azamar Journey on the 5th and 20th and Europa on the 10th.The steady flow of passenger vessels to the Lüderitz port is set to continue in March with another five visits scheduled. Aida Diva is set to arrive on the 4th, Hamburg on the 13th, AidaStella on the 15th, Le Bougainville on the 28th and S.A. Diana on the 29th. Vasco Da Gama is scheduled to call on 1 April and could be followed by Sirena visiting on 2 April, Silver Dawn visiting on 6 May, Azamara Onward arriving on 13 May and Regatta docking on 2 June.
