NFA directive prompts Southern Stream leadership extension

The Southern Stream First Division (SSFD) has extended the mandate of its executive committee by three months, from 23 July to 23 October, following an Extraordinary Annual General Meeting (EAGM) held online on Saturday.

Representatives of eight of the league's 12 member clubs attended the meeting, satisfying the quorum requirements set out in the SSFD constitution. Members unanimously approved the extension during the meeting, which was conducted via Google Meet.

The executive committee consists of the chairperson Jakobus Markus, vice-chairperson Christophine Neumbo and executive members Roberta Jossob, Dawie van Staden, Gunnar von Dewitz, Nico Freygang and Alessandro Micheletti.

The extension follows a directive from the Namibia Football Association (NFA) instructing all Nationwide First Division Streams to postpone their Ordinary Elective Annual General Meetings until the promotion play-offs and the promotion and relegation process have been completed.

Markus said the extension was intended solely to comply with the NFA directive and enable the league to complete its remaining governance and electoral obligations.

"The extension of the Executive Committee's mandate is solely intended to ensure compliance with the NFA Directive and to enable the League to complete all remaining governance and electoral processes before convening the Ordinary Elective Annual General Meeting. It should therefore not be construed as an extension of office beyond what is reasonably necessary to fulfil the statutory obligations placed upon the League," he said.

Extension period

According to Markus, the additional three months would allow the league to admit newly promoted clubs, appoint an independent electoral committee and conduct an inclusive, transparent and credible election in which all eligible member clubs could exercise their constitutional rights.

“During the extension period, the executive committee will oversee the implementation of the NFA directive, the completion of the promotion and relegation process, the admission of newly promoted clubs and the appointment of the SSFD Electoral Committee,” Markus said.  

The committee would also issue the statutory notice convening the Ordinary Elective Annual General Meeting and complete all electoral and administrative preparations in accordance with the SSFD constitution, NFA statutes and applicable rules and regulations.

Markus thanked member clubs for their continued cooperation and commitment to the league's governance, and congratulated Young Brazilians FC on winning the 2025/26 Southern Stream First Division title.
