First National Bank (FNB) Namibia has reaffirmed its commitment to developing women’s football with a N$9.38 million sponsorship for the Women’s Super League (WSL) over the next three years.

At the launch of the WSL’s 2026-27 season in Windhoek yesterday, alongside the Namibia Football Association (NFA) and the sports ministry, the bank committed an additional N$111 000 to account for inflation.

The league will feature 12 teams, with the new season officially kicking off in Windhoek on 7 November.

FNB Sponsorship and Social Impact manager Revonia Andreas said the investment went beyond supporting matches and tournaments, describing the league as a platform for developing players and communities.

“We understand that investing in sport is not simply about supporting matches and tournaments. It is about investing in people, communities and futures,” she said.

“Today, as we launch this season, the conviction is stronger than ever. The FNB Women’s Super League has become a valuable platform for players to sharpen their skills and compete at a high level,” Andreas said.

‘Regular competitive football’

Deputy sports minister Dino Ballotti emphasised the importance of a strong domestic league in building a competitive national team.

“The Brave Gladiators did not become champions in one afternoon in Polokwane,” he said.

“They were built week after week on the pitches all over the country in a domestic league that gave them regular competitive football. We shall always say when the league is strong, so is the national team,” Ballotti said.

NFA’s marketing, communications, sales and information technology officer Cassius Moetie thanked the bank for its continued support.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to FNB for its commitment to sponsoring the top-tier Women’s Super League for the next three football seasons,” Moetie said.

Moetie confirmed to Sport Wrap yesterday that the fixtures and team schedules have yet to be finalised.

Mighty Gunners’ Leena Alweendo was named Player of the Season, earning N$15 000, and received another N$10 000 as the league’s top goalscorer with 22 goals.
