Rural electrification delay frustrates villagers
NEWS IN SHORT
Chairperson of the Thipanana and Rughongo village development committee in Kavango East, David Muronga, told Namibian Sun this week that the community is deeply frustrated after their rural electrification request submitted last year was allegedly ignored.
According to Muronga, the villages have remained without electricity since independence.
“Only a few households have electricity. The rest are still in the dark,” he said.
He claimed that electrification initially earmarked for them was allegedly redirected to another village.
He warned that if no action is taken in the coming months, residents may opt to vote for a councillor who is not from the ruling Swapo in the next elections.
Mukwe constituency councillor Damian Maghambayi could not be reached for comment.
