Namibia’s President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has been named African Political Leader of the Year in the 2025 African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year (POTY) Awards. Namibia's health minister, Dr Esperance Luvindao, was recognised as the African Public Health Champion of the Year.

“The 2025 winners collectively embody a pan-African community of trailblazers whose work spans sectors and geographies and is aligned with a shared commitment to advancing sustainable development, strengthening institutional resilience and driving inclusive economic growth on the continent,” ALM publisher Ken Giami said.

ALM noted that Nandi-Ndaitwah's "leadership continues to inspire progress, strengthen democratic values and shape a more inclusive future for Africa."

ALM honoured Luvindao, saying: "Her steadfast commitment to expanding healthcare access, strengthening public health systems and safeguarding the well-being of millions continues to set a remarkable standard for leadership in Africa’s health sector. Minister Luvindao’s transformative impact is helping shape a healthier, more resilient future for the continent."

The awards will be formally presented to the winners at the annual ceremony scheduled for 27 and 28 February 2026 in Accra, Ghana.
