Kunene families crack under pressure
Kunene governor Vipuakuje Muharukua has voiced concern over growing social challenges in the region.
Delivering the State of the Region Address yesterday, Muharukua said a total of 1 793 individual cases involving socially vulnerable persons were reported to state authorities over the past year.
Another 129 cases of substance abuse, 89 attempted suicide cases and 46 cases of gender-based violence were also reported.
"These statistics are indicative of cracks in our families and social settings. If not dealt with and addressed, they will continue to pose a threat to our development as a region. And these are only the reported cases," Muharukua said.
