China donates final rice consignment

Gladice Pickering, executive director at the Office of the Prime Minister, on Tuesday received the final 2 420 tonnes of 50 kg rice donated to the 2024/2025 nationwide drought relief programme. The donation, valued at US$2.8 million, was presented by Chinese Ambassador Zhao Weiping.
Earlier this year, the first consignment of 1 360 tonnes of 50 kg rice was received and distributed to the Oshikoto region. Distribution of the second consignment to all 14 regions began in September.
Ambassador Zhao said the latest food assistance “clearly demonstrates China’s firm commitment to stand with the Namibian people in overcoming the challenges confronting social and economic development.”
