HONOURED: In a historic and heartfelt gesture, the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) on Tuesday, 8 July, officially renamed its recently refurbished television Studio 4 to the Stanley Benjamin Similo (SBS) Studio, honouring its director general, Stanley Benjamin Similo, a pioneering force in Namibian broadcasting. This significant recognition celebrates Similo’s transformative leadership and over 37 years of unwavering service to not only the national broadcaster but also to the industry and the broader media landscape in Namibia and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Similo’s journey with NBC began in 1988 as a 22-year-old promotion and advertising officer. Over the years, he rose through the ranks with roles including camera operator, subeditor, HR manager, and senior manager for local programmes, where he created some of NBC’s most iconic shows, such as Tutaleni, Talk of the Nation, and Penduka.
