Genocide talks bring German MP to Namibia

German parliamentarian Charlotte Neuhäuser of the Left Party (Die Linke) is visiting Namibia for talks with Ovaherero and Nama representatives on addressing the genocide committed during German colonial rule.

On Monday, Neuhäuser attended a press conference in Katutura alongside Mutjinde Katjiua, leader of the Ovaherero Traditional Authority (OTA). She reaffirmed her party’s support for calls for recognition of the genocide, a formal apology and reparations.

Neuhäuser is also scheduled to meet members of the Nama community in Keetmanshoop on Saturday, 24 October. The meeting is being organised by the Nama Traditional Leaders Association (NTLA).
