Oshana police urge stronger community ties

TUYEIMO HAUFIKU

Oshana Regional Police Commander Commissioner Andreas Shilelo has called on communities to work closely with law enforcement to combat crime.

Shilelo made the remarks during a community policing and information-sharing session held at the Haimbodi Hamukoto Growth Centre in the Okatana Constituency on Tuesday. The meeting brought together residents from Iikelo, Ohailulu C, Ondjodjo and Epanya villages.

Residents used the platform to voice concern over a rise in livestock theft and domestic violence cases, urging the police to respond swiftly to reported incidents.

Among the topics discussed were alcohol and drug abuse, the Liquor Act, domestic violence, the Witchcraft Act and the Combating of Immoral Practices (Prostitution) Act.

Shilelo stressed that effective crime prevention depends on cooperation between communities and law enforcement.

He encouraged residents to report criminal activities, support community policing initiatives and familiarise themselves with Namibia’s laws to avoid coming into conflict with the law.

Shilelo said the community engagement forms part of the police’s ongoing efforts to improve public awareness, strengthen trust between officers and communities, and promote collaborative approaches to crime prevention across the region.
