Von Trotha dominant at Farewell Derby
Von Trotha won the main race at the Farewell Derby horseracing competition at the Okahatjipara Turf on Saturday.
Seventy-five horses owned by different racing clubs and individuals took part in the 12 sprint races held at Okondjatu in the Otjozondjupa Region.
A whopping N$80 000 in prize-money was distributed among the winners.
Edison Kandjii's Von Trotha won the 2 000m in the Nambred A-division category, which was the main race for local horses.
Eagle from Professor Supporters Club (PSC) came second, while Uaraa Tjiho's Freedom Fighter came third. Von Trotha also won the 1 000m in the Nambred open A-division, followed by Eagle and Freedom Fighter in second and third, respectively.
The horse had also dominated at the recent Otjinene Nambred competition, after winning both the 1 000m and 2 000m races.
Mamba's Pride won the 1 000m Nambred maiden category, followed by Omake in second and Surprise in third.
In the 1 000m Nambred beginners' category, Waterloo emerged as the victor, while Diana Wonder Woman came second and Silver Sun took third spot.
Starlile scooped the first spot in the 2 000m thoroughbred open, followed by Rockley Beach and Shadaloo in second and third, respectively.
Leeuloop took the top spot in the Nambred 1 800 D-division category, while Sunny Side came second and Kapenailonga took third place.
Jet Apostle won the 1 000m thoroughbred maiden and graduation category, followed by Rikers Island and Princess Nicela in second and third, respectively.
In the 1 000m thoroughbred open category, Visigoth came first, Rockley Beach second and Coal third.
Adolf Levi scooped the jockey of the day award, taking home a trophy and N$500.
