Two murders in Kuisebmond

WALVIS BAY
A case of murder was reported in Walvis Bay after a police officer was stabbed to death at about 00h30 on Saturday, 5 June. The incident took place in James Brown Street.
The deceased, Asser Dominicus (29), whose next of kin have been informed, was stationed at Kuisebmond police station.
The Erongo police unit commander for community affairs, inspector Ileni Shapumba, confirmed the incident.
“The deceased was walking with his girlfriend to her place after visiting a friend when a group of about five male persons approached them with knives and searched them, but did not take anything valuable from them. The deceased was stabbed from behind in his left upper shoulder. When he turned around, he was stabbed again in his chest/abdomen. The suspects fled.”
The deceased and his girlfriend tried to get to her home, which was about 200 metres away, but he collapsed. He was declared dead by paramedics at the scene and his body was transported to Walvis Bay State Hospital.
Second murder
Another case of murder was opened after a man was beaten and died on the spot in Kuisebmond on Friday.
According to Shapumba, the deceased, Josef Martin Katzao (69), was seated at a table with friends in front of Bafana Bafana Bar when an argument erupted between him and a security guard (57) at around 16:30.
“The security guard allegedly took a baton and beat the deceased on his head and struck him behind the left ear. The deceased collapsed. He was assisted by his friends who helped him up. However, the deceased passed away while seated and was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.”
The body was taken to Walvis Bay State Hospital. Police investigations continue.
Escape
Meanwhile in Swakopmund, police are searching for Salom Nawaseb (23) who escaped custody on Saturday.
According to Erongo police regional crime investigations coordinator, deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, Nawaseb was arrested on Friday in Mondesa for housebreaking with intent to steal, and theft.
“The suspect was allegedly assaulted by members of the piblic who apprehended him. He was taken to Swakopmund State Hospital where he was admitted under police guard. While in hospital, he requested permission to go to the toilet, and escaped through a window.”
Nawaseb is a resident of Tulinawa, Mondesa, but according to information, he is new to Swakopmund. No photo of him is available yet.
The search to trace and arrest him continues. Anyone who has seen him or knows his whereabouts is urgently requested to contact Iikuyu at 081 246 4757 or 081 391 0671 or any nearest police station.
