Tomas, Haitope win big
Rainhold Tomas won the men's 21 km half-marathon in a time 1:06:2 and bagged N$7 000 in prize money for his efforts.

The sixth edition of the Navachab half-marathon took place at Karibib over the weekend.
The winner of the men's race, Rainhold Tomas, said the victory was a boost in his preparations for upcoming events.
“I feel very good for winning this half-marathon because I prepared for it and because it is my first time winning this event. My main goal for the remainder of the year is to qualify to take part at the 2020 Olympic Games,” he said.
Tomas will represent Namibia at the 2019 World Championships, which will take place on 6 October in Doha, Qatar.
“I feel very proud that I will be representing my country because it will be my first time for me to do this,” he said.
Simon Paulus was the men's runner-up and clocked a time of 1:06:4 while Kephas Kondjeni crossed the finish line third with 1:09:1 on the clock. Paulus and Kondjeni received N$2 500 and N$1 500 respectively for their podium finishes.
In the women's 21 km race, winner Lavinia Haitope crossed the finish line in a time of 1:16:5. She earned a well-deserved N$7 000 for her endeavours.
“The course was good for me and I am really happy with my time,” said Haitope, who will also use the rest of the year to prepare for the 2020 Olympic Games.
Alina Armas finished second in the women's race (1:18:1) and walked away with N$2 500 in prize money. She finished ahead of third-placed Anna Amukoto (1:19:3), who received N$1 500 for her efforts.
Over 500 runners took part in the event which also featured a 5 km fun run. This year the half-marathon's sponsorship increased to N$112 000, compared to N$100 000 last year.
Navachab Gold Mine committed N$45 000 towards the event, while the Karibib town council pledged N$12 000. A new sponsor, Namid, contributed N$40 000, while there were sponsorships from Karibib's FBN branch and Namagra, who pledged N$10 000 and N$5 000 respectively.
