The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has announced that the results for Okakarara, Otavi and Katima Mulilo local authorities are under review and will soon be announced.
ECN chief electoral officer (CEO) Theo Mujoro yesterday said the seat allocation were not done correctly by the returning officers.
According to him they misapplied the formula for allocating the seats.
Meanwhile, the results for Koes, Aroab, Stampriet and the Mariental Rural constituency could not be finalised because of serious procedural errors during the elections.
Wrong ballots
According to Mujoro, at Koes and Aroab there was a mix-up in the distribution of ballots and the ECN teams mistakenly used ballot papers meant for the Keetmanshoop local authority elections.
In the Mariental Rural constituency, a mobile polling team distributed the wrong ballots to voters.
“At the same time, they denied people who were correctly registered as regional council voters a right to vote. They did not even bother to take out the regional council ballot,” he said.
“The ECN has since informed all affected stakeholders and is currently consulting with relevant institutions in order to find an amicable solution to these issues. The public will soon be updated on the way forward regarding the elections that could not be completed,” Mujoro said.
