The youth – The architects of Namibia's tomorrow

Namibia is now captivated by a political scandal which has polarised society. It involves the dismissal of the deputy minister of land reform, Bernadus 'Clinton' Swartbooi. While there is a general, wide-ranging debate on the content of the position and content of the deputy minister, there is seems to be a clear generational conflict between the young and the old. The old, the liberating generation, has been in power for the past 26 years. Those on a collision path with the firebrand have been in power since day one. While it is often not stated, the younger generation, constituting 60% of the population is surely growing tired of these leaders who have converted themselves into permanent furniture of our political leadership. If there is one thing that is in the hearts of many young Namibians and often never expressed in public it is this: Time's up oldies – you have been generally corrupt and greedy. We respect and love you but we are tired!
