The rise of Otjozondjupa netball

One of the organisers of the Cenored Otjozondjupa Netball League, Seu Pulcheria Gowases, has heaped praise on the development of the league and the way the previous season was played.
The league, which concluded last month, is said to have been a resounding success in spite of the coronavirus restrictions which saw sport being prohibited on a few occasions.
“We are pleased with the way the season was concluded even through this difficult period of the pandemic.
“This was a good start for us and we can only thank all those that were part of this season.
“The organisers are the Otjozondjupa Netball League committee, chaired by Mrs Marvellous Ochar.
“There is a definite rise in netball all over the country and Otjozondjupa Region is in the mix of things,” Tjipee said.
The league currently gets a N$17 000 sponsorship from Cenored.
“We would also like to thank our sponsors Cenored for making this possible.
“We hope for more sponsors to come board for next season given that we need more funds,” she added.
This season ended in late September 2021 and was played at Okahandja.
Otjozondjupa Nampol cemented their top status after winning the league in great fashion.
They took home N$4 000, a floating trophy and gold medals for their triumph.
Mighty Gunners settled for second place, receiving N$3 500 and silver medals.
Okahandja Netball Club took home N$2 500 and bronze medals for their efforts.
“Next season will be better and well organised, unless Corona comes and disrupts the netball again.
“Teams are in high spirits but are financially not capable of meeting their needs in terms of traveling and developing their teams.
“That is why we will continue pleading with corporate Namibia to come and board and support the plight of players,” Tjipee said.
