The Jolion: Run the City
A jolly good buy in any spec

After being blown away by the top-spec Jolion 1,5T 7DCT 2WD Super Luxury a few months ago, we felt it appropriate to revisit our friends at Pupkewitz Haval to get a feel for the other end of the spectrum, their entry-level 1,5T City Manual.
Excellent at every level
While the fancy shift-knob, drive modes, leather seats and some of the other bells have been omitted from this model, it still has plenty of bells and whistles, and makes an amazing impression with its higher-than-expected levels of spec, tech and comfort.
With Haval’s L.E.M.O.N platform giving it a smooth, upmarket ride, this entry-level Jolion is a pleasure to drive, both at highway speeds or in town, with the level of insulation adding to its solid and serene feel.
Though you colour instrument cluster is a 3.5-incher instead of the 7-inch in the higher end models, it remains striking. So too do the cloth seats, which retain a distinct styling while not sacrificing in terms of comfort. Keyless entry and push-button start are among the many premium features that are present across the range.
Safety still a priority
Even at this end of the line-up, owners will still enjoy a comprehensive list of safety and convenience features including an electronic parking brake, cruise control, dual and front airbags, child locks, ABS and EBD as well as electronic stability control and traction control, anti-roll, secondary collision mitigation, hill assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, rear park sensors, Bluetooth and even speed-sensitive steering.
All Haval Jolion models are powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops 105 kW between 5 600-6 000 r/min and 210 Nm between 2 000-4 400 r/min with the power being sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual in our test model, which should be more than enough to keep a smile on the face of the average driver, especially those watching their consumption.
The Jolion truly is one of the motoring highlights of the year, and even in base trim, it offers a level of value that’s hard to compete with, especially at its price point of N$313 000.
