Ten people (all male) were arrested for drinking and driving at the coast on Friday and yesterday.
Erongo deputy police commissioner Erastus Iikuyu confirmed that nine drivers were arrested in Walvis Bay between Friday 22:30 and yesterday 04:35 during a joint operation by municipal, Nampol traffics and police reservists.
The arrested persons will appear in court tomorrow. Iikuyu said that operations of this nature had commenced in all towns and will continue during the festive season.
The first arrest was made in Nangolo Mbumba Drive on Friday. A man (34) was found driving a motor vehicle whilst under the influence of liquor or narcotic drugs. A second person (58) was arrested in Rikumbi Kandanga Road. Another person (29) was arrested in Civic Centre Street. The fourth person (28) was arrested in Sam Nujoma Avenue yesterday. Other arrests for drinking and driving offenses also followed in the vicinity of Namport, Sam Nujoma Avenue, Hannah Mupetami Road and at Circumferential Road.
One person (39) was also arrested in Mandume Ndemufayo Street in Swakopmund yesterday.
