A teacher from the //Karas Region who made tribal comments on social media faces the prospect of being fired by the education ministry.
Among his shocking statements included that he wants to “shoot Namas for fun” and that the entire tribe should die from Covid-19.
Education ministry executive director Sanet Steenkamp told Namibian Sun yesterday that consultations were being held with the Public Service Commission about the incident.
“There is provision that his contract may be terminated. We are consulting with the Public Service Commission; that is all that I can say for now,” Steenkamp said. //Karas police commissioner David Indongo said the man has been arrested.
He could face two counts: one for assault by threat and the other for the contravention of the Racial Discrimination Prohibition Act of 1991.
The suspect, who is expected to appear in court today, posted WhatsApp statuses that sent social media into a frenzy.
These included: “I wish I had my AK-47 from Kaisosi to shoot some Namas for fun. Namas are idiots, no wonder [the] Germans slained them all back in 1905 (sic). If you are a Nama and you are catching, [email protected]&k you. I manifest (that) corona should wipe out the entire Nama race in Namibia, especially in Bethanie.”
