Sustainable tourism expert at networking conference
The local and regional tourism community are all looking forward to the 20th edition of the ever-popular Namibia Tourism Expo which will be held from 30 May to 3 June at the Windhoek show grounds.
This year, there is a special treat for tourism stakeholders and conservationists alike. On 29 May, one day before the expo kicks off, a Tourism Networking Conference will be held in the Mopane hall at the Windhoek show grounds. Five seminars will be presented, all focusing on the theme of the 2018 expo, Conservation - Small things matter. The environment and tourism minister Pohamba Shifeta will officially open the 1st Tourism Networking Conference.
Hazel Milne, the programme coordinator for Eco Awards Namibia will be sharing her knowledge with the delegates. Hazel holds a Hons. B. Diac. degree from Unisa (1985), and has been actively involved in the tourism sector in Namibia since 1998. She is qualified and experienced as trainer, mentor and assessor for tourist guides in Namibia, and has been instrumental in the developing a system for mutual recognition amongst the many sustainable tourism certification programmes in Africa.
She is the vice-chairperson of the African Alliance for Sustainable Tourism, and regularly delivers guest lectures for students in the tourism faculties of the University of Namibia (Unam) and the University of Science and Technology. She is currently representing the Namibian tourism sector on the Council of the Namibian Qualifications Authority (NQA).
