SPYL gives Sheya the cold shoulder
In his 1 December 2021 no-holds-barred letter to Nekongo, Sheya expressed disappointment in the manner the youth wing axed him from the executive committee.

Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) secretary Ephraim Nekongo says comments by former youth league secretary for economic affairs, Marius Sheya, do not warrant a response as they are not factual and hold no water.
In a letter, Sheya alleged that the ruling party’s youth wing is gripped by jealousy and hunger for positions.
In a brief response to Namibian Sun over the comments Sheya made in December after being axed from the secretary for economic affairs position, Nekongo said the letter was intended for the public and not the central committee, therefore there was no need to respond to it.
‘Nothing’
“I cannot respond to anything because it was not me who took the decision. The decision was taken by the central committee of the SPYL,” he said.
“I found nothing in that letter. If there was anything that I thought needed to be taken up with the central committee, then I would have commented on it, but in the meantime, that letter did not have any content which required our intervention because it was really a letter for the public, it was not for us [central committee].
“There was no allegation there. If there were facts, then he could have challenged the decision for the central committee to relook at their decision but there was nothing.
“How can the central committee be jealous of one person whom they were with? It does not hold water.”
‘Selfish’
In his 1 December 2021 no-holds-barred letter to Nekongo, Sheya expressed disappointment in the manner the youth wing had axed him from the executive committee.
Sheya faced a vote of no confidence over allegations of undermining SPYL and driving a “Namibian National Student Organisation [Nanso] agenda within the youth league”.
He did not challenge the decision to recall him from his portfolio.
“It is my averment that the manner in which I was removed from the position of secretary for economic affairs of the SPYL was unprocedural, unconstitutional and grossly unfair,” Sheya wrote.
He said some SPYL members are selfish and are not happy for young people to be appointed into positions of leadership and power.
Sheya, according to sources in the league, is a poster child of those who allegedly undermine the league by bypassing structures and dealing with President Hage Geingob directly on matters the league should decide on.
“The one organisation which we could have mobilised to attain this strategy, we are declaring war [on] because of Savimbi Syndrome and petty jealousy.
“It is staggering that we are unable to find the time to discuss mobilisation strategies for new members, but we found time to fight each other,” he wrote at the time.
