Looking for some of the best Namibian music of all time? Look no further!
Ras Sheehama, the gift that keeps on giving, recently dropped not one, but two compilation albums of his greatest hits.
Sharing the motive behind putting out two albums at the same time, the 54-year-old Sheehama told tjil that the songs people requested could not fit on one CD.
He added that the albums, titled Journey One and Journey Two, are being sold as a set, but if people only want to buy one, that is also possible.
“It is like the best of Ras Sheehama, but we don’t want to call it that because I am not yet done releasing new material,” the icon said.
Hits from the 90s
“Journey One contains hit songs from the 90s, but with boosted sound, since my first three albums were released on cassette only,” Sheehama said.
He added that Journey Two consists of songs from 2000 onwards.
And fans are in for a treat! The second compilation also features a brand-new song, Smile, which features reigning kwaito king Exit.
The veteran musician said he is happy with the reaction to the drop so far, and attributes the positive response to the fact that the songs were taken back to studio for digital remastering.
“That process gave the songs from the 90s a modern feel while keeping the authenticity,” he said.
Buy local
For now, Sheehama is selling CDs and USBs himself by order, but the albums will be distributed to various music outlets countrywide in due course, he said.
You can call 081 6733 774 or 081 272 7391 to get your hands on these projects.
At Home With Goethe
In other news, the Goethe-Institut Namibia yesterday announced Sheehama as the performing act for this week’s At Home with Goethe show.
The event is scheduled for Friday, 5 June, and will be streamed live on the Goethe Facebook page at 19:00.
The show is brought to you in collaboration with the German embassy in Windhoek.
On what to expect from his set, Sheehama said: “It will be lively and an energetic performance with a full live band, coupled with a good selection of songs from the three decades I’ve been in the music industry. Just tune in and see for yourself.”
