Prosecutor appears in court
The 29-year-old public prosecutor who was arrested last Saturday on a charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol made his first court appearance at Okakarara on Monday.
Johannes Inongelwa, who is employed at the Okakarara Magistrate's Court, appeared before assistant magistrate Yvonne Seibes. Inongelwa, who opted to defend himself in court, pleaded not guilty. It is alleged that a breathalyser test indicated that his blood alcohol level was 0.38 milligrams (mg), surpassing the legal limit of 0.37mg. His case was postponed to 17 February to allow for further police investigation. Prosecutor Olavi Amutenya Nangolo represented the state. Otjozondjupa acting police commander deputy commissioner Moses Khairabeb said on Sunday that Inongelwa was arrested after allegedly driving his private vehicle while under the influence of alcohol at Okakarara. Inongelwa was released on N$2 000 bail on Sunday morning.
