State House has refused to comment on a call for the dismissal of Kavango East regional governor Bonifatius Wakudumo.
State House press secretary Alfredo Hengari declined to comment on the petition when contacted.
The lack of response from the presidenct was on the agenda of the Kavango East Concerned Group (KECG), who held a press briefing last week on the way forward as far as Wakudumo is concerned. KECG spearheaded the 29 December 2020 protest against Wakudumo, expressing their disappointment at the appointment of a Chinese-born businessman as one of his advisors on development in the Kavango East Region. Wakudumo rescinded his decision a day before the protest but the event went ahead and KECG demanded that Geingob relieve the governor resign or be fired by President Geingob. At last week's press briefing, KECG spokesperson Petersen Kambinda expressed disappointment at Geingob's failure to respond to the demand.
Another protest
Kambinda indicated that they would stage another demonstration on 5 February.
“We wrote a petition to Geingob on 29 December 2020 requesting him to relieve the Kavango East governor of his duties of for the governor to resign himself,” Kambinda said. “Unfortunately, we have not received any feedback from the president up to today. The president and his office have also not acknowledged the matter to date and have not even provided any indication to us that the matter is being attended to. “We therefore express our disappointment that the president has not responded to the cry of the people of Kavango East which was relayed to his office through the aforementioned petition.
“It is against this background that the neglected people of this region, irrespective of their political affiliation, will hold a Red Friday on 5 February. “On this day we will all wear red attire and stage a mass demonstration to reiterate our petition to the president,” he said.
