Police Games bring cops together

Beyond merely competing with their fellow officers in the region, friendships seem to have been formed at the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO) Games, which ended yesterday.
The closing ceremony at the Independence Stadium saw many of the delegates sharing stories and taking part in various dance moves.
That seems to have fitted in well with the objective of the games, which were introduced to cultivate a spirit of togetherness at operational level.
While the final medal table will show that Namibia dominated various codes, especially on the athletics track, the results are sure to be arbitrary as the police officers felt that the games were a great platform to meet new friends.
“I made many friends and I'm sure they'll become great contacts when fighting inter-regional crime,†said an officer from Angola.
“Absolutely fantastic,†said another from Mozambique when asked how he found the event.
That, of course, also fits in well with this year's theme which was 'Combating Crime, United in Sport'.
The next SARPCCO Games will take place in 2015.
