Pohamba is a ‘criminal’ – LPM

Landless People’s Movement (LPM) deputy leader Henny Seibeb has accused former president Hifikepunye Pohamba -who secured a High Court order to evict members of the Hai//kom from his farm Guinaspoh in the Otavi district - of exploitation.
Pohamba and his wife Penehupifo were represented by Sisa Namandje Inc. against Alfred Kairiseb and Amanda Kairises.
The family includes two vulnerable pensioners.
The party has also announced its intention to approach the Supreme Court to determine the validity of the process, while lobbying the Mo Ibrahim Foundation to strip the former president of the 2014 Ibrahim Prize for his role in forging national cohesion and reconciliation.
They are yet to establish whether they have locus standi to approach the court on behalf of the community or whether they can only support them with resources to make their plea to court.
“While we understand his constitutional rights to own and dispose of property, we feel that this move was cruel, insensitive, and does not fit the persona of a former head of state, who served at one stage as lands minister, and Mo Ibrahim Democracy and Good Governance prize-money winner,” Seibeb said yesterday.
He also pointed out that Pohamba’s actions make a mockery of his position as traditional headman, and is further testimony that the Swapo government does not have the interests of indigenous people at heart.
Fake president
“He was a fake president, only hell-bent on oppressing the poor and voiceless people.
“He created a façade to maintain Imperial Germany and Apartheid South Africa’s policies of land dispossession. He is no different from the German descendants and Afrikaner descendants,” the politician said.
“Our people must wake up, especially the Hai//om San and other marginalised communities, and realise that continued support of Swapo and evil politicians such as Pohamba is detrimental and will lead to ethnic cleansing.”
