A 30-year-old man from Otavi committed suicide by allegedly drinking acid on Monday.

Otjozondjupa police spokesperson, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, said yesterday the deceased has been identified as Desmond Salmon Hoaeb.

He died at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital after he allegedly drank acid at his residence.

Mbeha said it is alleged that Hoaeb ingested the substance at around 10:00 on Monday and his relatives took him to the Otavi clinic.

Upon seeing his condition, health workers at the clinic decided to transfer him to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital for further medical attention.

“However, Hoaeb died at around 13:20 in the hospital,” Mbeha said.

She said Hoaeb left behind a suicide note in which he spoke of relationship complications he was experiencing.

No foul play is suspected and police investigations continue.
