Oshakati localities which were under water due to the flooding experienced in and around the town over the past two months have dried up, and all the affected residents have returned to their homes.
This according to town council spokesperson, Katarina Kamari.
On Thursday, Kamari said this year, 1 858 Oshakati households vacated their residences in March due to floodwater and they were relocated to Ehenye in the northeast of the town, where the authorities accommodated them temporarily in tents.
“They started going back to their houses in the past few weeks and the last group of residents left the tents on Tuesday,” Kamari noted, adding that the tents they occupied have also been removed.
She lauded local companies such as Atlantic Food Services, Spar Market and the Oshana Regional Council for mitigating the situation by providing food, sanitation and tents to the flood victims.
Oshoopala, Oneshila, Okandjengedi and Evululuko were the areas severely affected.
