The Omusati police are investigating a case of rape against an 85-year-old pensioner who allegedly sodomised his eight-year-old grandson at Otsalindi village in the Otamanzi constituency.
The incident allegedly happened on 30 June; however, the case was only opened a week later. Omusati police regional crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Simaho, yesterday confirmed that a case has been opened, but refused to divulge more as investigations are still ongoing. Simaho said no arrest has been made. “The crime is rape and the penetration is sodomy. The statement is just from the guardian, even though the J88 [form] shows something. We have to attain a statement from the victim himself,” Simaho said. The family has demanded that the accused be arrested. Meanwhile, the victim's guardian, who spoke on condition of anonymity, narrated what transpired at their homestead on 30 June. The source said the victim allegedly revealed what had happened to him after seeing his grandmother, a week after the incident, applying ointment similar to the one used on him prior to the rape. According to the victim, his grandfather allegedly told him to wait for him in his room as they would be sleeping together.
The boy normally sleeps next to his grandmother.
Not the first time
Despite the accused denying the act, the family opened a case at the Okahao police station. Namibian Sun has been informed that the accused allegedly attempted to sodomise another boy about 10 years ago, but failed after the boy overpowered him.
