The Otjinene Christmas Cup, which was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic, concluded at the weekend with Okauua Rovers winning the competition.
Rovers defeated Oslek 1-0 in the final that took place at the Khomasdal Stadium on Sunday.
The winning team walked away with N$17 000, a trophy and 20 gold medals.
Oslek were compensated with N$9 000, a trophy and 20 gold medals for making it to the final.
The two semi-final losers, Okei and Mighty Bucs, each received N$5 000.
Vaitavera Tjatindi of Okauua Rovers was voted goalkeeper of the tournament, while Oslek’s Uanee Mujoro was voted as the player of the tournament.
Otjinene sports and culture executive member Tjivikara Kamenje said he was happy that the tournament finally reached its conclusion.
“It was not an easy time for us but we finally managed to bring this tournament to an end.
“We would like to thank everyone who made this tournament possible.
“We are hoping for bigger and better tournaments of this nature going forward,” Kamenje said.
Rovers first beat Real Madrid 6-0 in the round of 16 before beating Ozombuzovindimba 5-4 on penalties in the quarterfinal and went to beat Okei 5-2 to reach the final.
Oslek advanced to the final by beating Omungondo Secret Stars 2-0 in the quarterfinal and Mighty Bucs 2-1 in the semis.
“All we are hoping for is to have more of the players go through the ranks to become top players for the national team.
“These tournaments have already produced players who are now playing at the highest level.
“It is for this reasons that we are always proud when we successfully host such tournaments,” Kamenje said.
