Okapya tourney excitement brews
The second edition of the annual Okapya sport tournament is scheduled for 20 to 22 December at the Eleven Morning Star soccer field near the Andimba Ya Toivo Airport at Okapya in the Oshana Region.
The tournament is aimed at promoting and encouraging youth to take part in different sport code. It also wants to unite Namibians from different cultures.
The tournament was created with the aim of keeping locals busy during festive season, in order to reduce the crime rate.
Ongwediva City are the defending champions of the youth soccer section, while Fresh Legends are the veteran soccer defending champions.
Registration for teams has officially opened and the due date is 19 December.
The draw for the tournament to be held at the Eleven Morning Star sports field on 19 December and two members of each team are requested to attend.
Organiser Sandro Ithana said: “Apart from the competition there are exhibitor stalls available for N$500, with a first come, first service rule. If anyone has an enquiry, they can reach me at the following number 081 244 4074.”
The prizes are as follows:
Veteran soccer - N$10 000
1st: N$5 000, a trophy and 18 medals
2nd: N$3 000 and 18 medals
3rd: N$2 000 and 18 medals
Registration - N$900
(Players must be 35 years and above)
Youth soccer - N$18 000
1st: N$10 000, a trophy and 18 medals
2nd: N$5 000 and 18 medals
3rd: N$3 000 and 18 medals
