New executive appointments at tourism ministry

Several new staff members were appointed at executive management level at the environment and tourism ministry today.
Tourism minister Pohamba Shifeta announced that Timoteus Mufeti has been appointed as environmental commissioner with effect from 19 March, and Dr Caroline !Garus-Oas as deputy environmental commissioner with effect from 1 August.
Meanwhile, in terms of the Public Service Act, Colgar Sikopo has been appointed as the deputy executive director for the department of natural resources management, effective 1 September.
Skills and expertise
Shifeta said Mufeti is an environment and natural resources scientist with educational knowledge, skills, expertise and experience in environmental and natural resources management.
!Garus-Oas is a biologist with education, skills, expertise and experience in marine, environmental and fish biology and bio-processing engineering, he added.
“She is currently serving on the Nature Conservation Board as vice-chairperson since 2018. She is also serving on the Water Regulator Board under the ministry of agriculture, water and land reform.”
!Garus-Oas also serves on the Biosafety Council of the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology.
Shifeta added that Sikopo is a seasoned nature conservationist who rose through the ranks of the ministry since starting his career as a ranger in 1997.
“I am confident, given their demonstrated capabilities from their previous roles, that they will be able to deliver and assist the ministry moving forward.”
