New dawn for Namibian football
The new Namibia Football Premier League was officially endorsed at the Namibia Football Association’s ordinary congress.

The Namibia Football Association’s (NFA) ordinary congress on Saturday adopted constitutional changes to incorporate the Namibia Football Premier League (NFPL).
The new league, which will replace the MTC Namibia Premier League, has also received a major boost after top clubs like African Stars and Life Fighters applied for membership.
The clubs - two of the few that had not applied for membership by last week - made a U-turn on their decision to not join the new league.
As things stand, 14 clubs have applied for membership to the NFPL. These are: Black Africa, Citizen, Young African, Civics, African Stars, Orlando Pirates, Blue Waters, Young Brazilians, Tura Magic, Mighty Gunners, Okahandja United, Life Fighters, Tigers and Julinho Sporting.

Meanwhile, the congress also confirmed the appointment of Franco Cosmos as the NFA’s secretary-general, while Jacqui Shipanga is the new technical director and Mabos Vries is the NFPL director, “subject to personal terms”, a statement from the NFA read.
The congress adopted the proposed dates for the restart of the season, with league football set to make a comeback from the end of February 2021 to August 2021, subject to Fifa approval.
“This will be after the 2021 Africa Nations Championships finals set for Cameroon in January where the Brave Warriors will compete.”
The audited financial statements of the NFA for the 2019/2020 period were also approved.
New system
“The NFA is also now rolling out Fifa E-Connect, a system that will be linked to Fifa’s Connect ID system. The system is to register all players from the age of 12 to ensure proper tracing and payment of training funds once a player becomes professional.”
Training on E-Connect for regional coordinators and club representatives is the first step to ensure that registration is coordinated, the statement further read.
