SWAKOPMUND

Award-winning radio personality George 'Nashawn' Marenga says he enjoyed being the 'ghost voice' at the Simply You Magazine Lifestyle and Fashion Awards (SYMLAFAs), recently held online.

Those performing this function can be heard making announcements in the background during a show, but are not seen by the audience or viewers.

According to Nashawn, he was initially nervous when the organisers contacted him for the gig, because it was his first time playing this role.

“However, I jumped at the chance because doing voice-overs and live announcements is nothing new to me,” he said.

Radio man

The Swakopmund-raised entertainer has been a radio presenter for Energy 100FM for the last five years.

The station's communications and creative director also entertains listeners on the 'Urban Drive' show.

Although he was worried about making a mistake during the awards, he said he thoroughly enjoyed it.

“It actually went smoothly. The tech crew made me feel comfortable, so I had fun.

If the opportunity presents itself again, I will gladly take it.”

Awards

Nashawn was nominated for the 2017 Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) best radio DJ of the year award as well as for the favourite male radio personality award at the 2018 SYMLAFAs.

A year later, he scooped favourite male radio presenter at the 2019 SYMLAFAs. He thanked the Simply You Magazine team for considering and choosing him as the ghost voice for the event.

This year, the SYMLAFA favourite male radio personality award went to NBC's Maldini Kushikulesha, while the favourite female radio personality award went to Ndapewa Ambambi of Eagle FM.
