NAPHA will not let anyone jeopardise its values

The Namibia Professional Hunting Association (NAPHA) says it will not tolerate anyone jeopardising its values.
This follows after a proposed new hunting association accused NAPHA of improper representation.
According to NAPHA it is in receipt of a letter sent by professional hunter Jofie Lamprecht with regard to the intention to establish the Hunting Concession Association of Namibia.
“NAPHA takes note of the reasoning stipulated in this letter for initiating this association, whereby indicating improper representation by what we can only assume is NAPHA,” said Danene van der Westhuyzen, president of NAPHA.
She said NAPHA takes exception to this, because it is a misrepresentation of facts and its mandate, which is to secure the future of hunting in Namibia and not the self-gain of individuals.
Followed protocol
According to her, NAPHA, as a partner of the tourism ministry, has followed protocol and engaged formally with the ministry where concerns were raised regarding quotas and outfitter agreements in conservancies and concessions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Simultaneously, solutions and suggestions on extensions of quotas and agreements were discussed and a positive and fair outcome was achieved, at the same time keeping in mind that the hunting fraternity is one of a number of stakeholders in this set-up.”
Van der Westhuyzen further said that various discussions followed between NAPHA and the ministry, which led to acceptable and fair terms being put on the table for outfitters and conservancies irrespective of whether they are NAPHA members or not.
She further stressed that the representation of this new association lies mostly outside the NAPHA membership.
“NAPHA will always welcome any professional hunter and operator to become part of our very highly regarded association. It is an association that is a collective, with the interest and mandate to secure hunting in Namibia and to represent our country as a whole, and not for individual gain.”
She said NAPHA is a truly Namibian association, formed and driven by qualified Namibian professional hunters and conservationists who embrace its objectives of ethical conduct in conservation hunting and sustainable utilisation of natural resources.
