Manhunt after shooting, robbery
The police are investigating a case of attempted murder, after armed robbers shot the executive director in the Office of the President, 51-year-old Moses Pakote, in his house early on Monday morning.
According to police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi, the robbers entered the house while the children were alone and demanded “valuable items”. He added that Pakote arrived later, and when the robbers heard him in the driveway, they ambushed him and shot him in the leg, as he emerged from his vehicle. “They took one red-and-white iPhone and two iPhone X (smartphones), as well as one Apple MacBook laptop,” he said.
According to Kanguatjivi the suspects fled into the mountains and are still at large.
“They fled on foot into the nearby mountains and no arrests have been made to date,” he said.
Presidential spokesperson Alfredo Hengari confirmed yesterday morning that Pakote was receiving treatment in a local hospital, following the attack.
“The presidency wishes to request you to respect his privacy, and that of his family, during this period.”
He also confirmed that the police are investigating the matter.
Before his appointment to the Office of the President, Pakote served as deputy executive director in the vice-president's private office.
