Man nabbed with unpolished diamond

The police in the Kavango West Region have arrested a 23-year-old man from Simanya village after he was found in possession of an unpolished diamond, which he allegedly acquired from an illegal trip into Angola.
The suspect Tuhafeni Timotheus, who appeared before magistrate Barry Mufana in the Kahenge Periodic Court on Wednesday, allegedly crossed into Angola illegally and was given the stone by someone in that country to sell it in Namibia.
However, he ran out of luck after the police at Simanya border post received a tip that a man was illegally crossing the Kavango River.
According to Kavango East police regional commander, Commissioner Josephat Abel, upon searching the suspect, the police found the unpolished gem in his possession.
The diamond has since been sent for evaluation to determine its value.
In court on Wednesday, Mufana granted Timotheus bail of N$3 000 before remanding the matter to 12 April for further investigations.
The accused said he would conduct his own defence.
