A 42-year-old man committed suicide on Friday after he had stabbed his wife to death with a kitchen knife in front of their two minor children in Gobabis.
According to the police, Sakeus Jambeinge Shapopi killed his 38-year-old wife, Ndinelao Evangelina Shapopi, between 05:00 and 08:00 on Friday morning in a flat in Smarlingaland, Gobabis.
Ndinelao, a nurse, had been living with their five-year-old boy and three-year-old daughter after relocating from Windhoek in October, while Sakeus was employed at a lodge in northern Namibia.
Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb told Namibian Sun that it seems their marriage problems had already started in Windhoek and that was why she moved to Gobabis.
“Last Tuesday (15 December) the husband arrived quietly in Gobabis to visit her, but it is surprising why she let him stay.”
Shapopi stayed for two days until the Friday morning when he killed her, said Khairabeb.
It is alleged that the couple were arguing in the main bedroom that morning. Shapopi followed his wife to the children's bedroom, where he stabbed her six times with a large kitchen knife.
According to Khairabeb the children were awake when that happened.
When Shapopi realised his wife was dead, he took her Amarok bakkie and drove about 20 km on the Gobabis-Otjinene road, where he hanged himself from a tree.
Schoolboy stabbing
At Mukundu village in the Kavango West Region, an 18-year-old boy stabbed another 18-year-old after finding him at his girlfriend's house on Friday.
The victim was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Rundu State Hospital. The suspect has been arrested.
Minors raped
At Stampriet, a 12-year-old girl was raped, allegedly by a 45-year-old man, on Saturday. It is alleged that the two live in the same house but are not related. The suspect has been arrested. In another incident at Lüderitz, an 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped on Saturday by two suspects. Both suspects have been arrested.
Stabbed over cigarettes
At Omaruru, a 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed in a fight over four cigarettes at the Katorori Tuck-shop in the Hakahana location. According to the police, Sebedeus Matsuib demanded to buy four cigarettes on credit, but the shop owner refused.
Matsuib left and returned with a group of people.
A fight broke and three men were stabbed, including Matsuib. All three were taken to hospital, where Matsuib was declared dead upon arrival. The suspect has been arrested.
