A six-year-old girl has died after a man beat her with a stick at Epanya village in the Oshana Region on Tuesday evening.

Oshana police spokesperson, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, said the girl was having dinner at the neighbours' house when a 34-year-old man attacked his mother, Martha Nembuta (60), and Dortea Samuel (17), with a panga.

The cause of the fight is unknown.

The suspect then turned on to the girl, Sabina Nambambi (6), and beat her with a stick. Sabina died upon arrival at Oshakati State Hospital.

“The [other] two victims are in a stable condition and have been admitted to the Oshakati hospital. The murder weapon, which was also used to assault the stable victims, was recovered,” he said.

The suspect has been arrested and charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder. He is detained at the Oshakati police station and due to appear in court this week. Police investigations continue.
