Kenya Kambowe
A 38-year-old man is currently fighting for his life in the Outapi district hospital after community members assaulted him for allegedly trying to kill his biological mother by hitting her with a car.

According to the Omusati Region's police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Linekela Shikongo, the incident took place on Sunday at Onambelela location in the Anamulenge constituency.

Shikongo said the suspect allegedly reversed his Toyota Corolla in the direction of his 72-year-old mother who suffered a fractured leg and then took off to their residence at Omahalya village where they both live together.

According to Shikongo “the victim sustained a fracture on her left leg and she is admitted at Outapi district hospital for the necessary treatment.”

However, the community members who witnessed the incident decided to take the law into their own hands by following him to his shared home with his mother where they attacked and assaulted him leaving him severely injured.

The suspect was later admitted to the Outapi district hospital and is currently under police guard.

He is expected to appear in the Outapi Magistrate's Court once he is fit and healthy.

A case of attempted murder has been opened and police investigations continue.

In an unrelated incident, a 95-year-old woman committed suicide on Sunday at Olonyime village in Ruacana constituency.

According to the police report the woman hanged herself with a rope in her hut at around 08:00.

The deceased has been identified as Celina Mulele and her next of kin are informed.
